Curb Appeal

What It Is & Why It Matters.

Curb appeal is all about the attractiveness of your property from the street view, it is the first impression your home makes. We all want our house to stand out from the rest and this is how you achieve curb appeal. Your homes exterior represents what’s inside.

There are many ways to achieve curb appeal from little tasks to extreme changes to make lasting impressions.

A well defined path to the front door makes the home look more inviting and clears the way from clutter. It drives the person’s eye right to the front door. Lighting is also super important as it highlights and illuminates a clear path and provides security in some cases.

Make your front door a focal point. Whether it’s choosing a grand door for your entrance to make a statement or a bold paint colour, it is an easy way to enhance the home’s exterior. Another way is to upgrade your homes house number. There are many creative ways to grab attention from the street view. Garage doors also play a big part in your homes’ curb appeal. Because garage doors are so large, they are usually the first thing people notice from the street. It is always best to stick to neutral colours and stay clear of bright and bold as they become distracting to the eye. The most effective way to achieve curb appeal is to have the front door and garage doors match or compliment each other if they both require paint finishes. Clean windows also present your home in the best manner, it adds a refined clean look. Be careful with choosing window coverings on the inside - maintain a symmetrical and clean look by selecting something with a neutral lining so even when the blinds are closed, it still gives a great allure from the outside.

Plants and floral gardens are always welcoming when it comes to curb appeal. Clearing out weeds and some simple pruning make the front yard look lush and neat. Consider plants with different textures and heights - layering makes it look more vivid. Taking care of your lawn is the most easiest and affordable way to boost your curb appeal.

If space permits, it is always nice to have a little seating area or patio set up. It makes the neighbourhood look friendly and offers up a space to unwind or have a morning coffee. Welcome mats also add that cozy ‘homey’ feel from the moment someone steps up to the front door. When seasons change, it is always nice to add seasonal wreaths as they are very welcoming, and clearing snow is also just as important during winter months.

Curb appeal also adds resale value to your home; it’s low a cost with high return in investments. It can also entice future buyers as they are more inclined to want to look inside and offer up top dollar. Whatever you decide to change, curb appeal shows the home owner takes pride in their home and routine maintenance all year long are all part of the equation.
