DESIGN STYLES 101

Defining your style is the first step to beginning your design journey and will make all your decorating decisions easier. The best way to do this is by getting inspired by simply searching Google, Pinterest, and/or Instagram for inspiration on what you envision your home or space to look like. Articulating your style is the key to creating a design plan that works effectively for your space.

Feng Shui is also an important method to use when decorating a space. Feng Shui is the art of arranging your furniture to bring calmness and tranquility to your space. Feng means ‘wind’ and Shui means ‘water’ and in the Chinese culture, this brings harmony and good fortune.  The front entry is where it all begins. 

Some elements of Feng Shui include:

• Wood (furniture, plants, etc.)
• Fire (candles, sunlight, etc.)
• Earth (earth tones;  brown, green, sand)
• Metal (adding gold, silver, iron, aluminum)
• Water (incorporating water or water features such as a fountain, etc.)

Every space gets customized with these 5 elements and each element supports each other. Colour also plays an important role. Specific colours infuse light and energy and have correspondence to each element.
