Minimalism - explained.

A minimalist design simply means less is more. It creates a calm atmosphere for your home where you want to relax after a long day at work. It emerged between the 1960s-1970s and highly influenced by Japanese design and architecture. It has had more of an impact on design in recent years.

Characteristics of Minimalist Design

  • Simplicity
  • Clean lines
  • Calm
  • Open floor plans

BATHROOM

It is perfect for a bathroom design where you want everything to look clean and neat. The most typical materials would be wood, metal, and glass. There are also limited accessories in a minimalist bathroom.

LIVING ROOM

It is always great to add some greenery in to the minimalist room to give it life and colour without making it look cluttered. In the photo below, you can see they have used two giant cactuses in this space with the round planters beside the linear wooden walls to break it very calmly. There is no drastic contrast in this room, yet you can see how they have gave the room life.

FAMILY ROOM

A great way to create a minimalist look is to not make it look boring; the lighting is important because you want the space to look bright and open. Here we can see this pendant which gives this space perfect lighting and it can be used as the focal point of this space but it doesn’t make you feel nervous about too much light. It is a perfect amount of light and design.

BEDROOM

The most important part of a day is waking up and sleeping in a bed where you feel alive when you wake up to start your day the best way possible - in this picture, you can feel alive by just looking at it. You don’t want anything to distract you in this room and all you can do is to take a breath and relax. Also, you can see the unique way of the pendant in this room where it can brighten up your room and yet be minimalist.

DINING ROOM

You can also have a minimalist look in your dining area and still it is not boring because of the unique look of this pendant and the use of the stems on the surface in the back. Having windows in a minimalistic room is also very important to give it a natural light especially when you use earth tones in the room. It definitely makes it feel cozy and de-cluttered.
