Traditional - explained.

TRADITIONAL DESIGN 101

Traditional, also known as classic is full of detail and is the most popular style throughout the years as it is a safe choice for most people of any age or any taste. Traditional design is inspired by the 18th and 19th century.  It is timeless and classic; there is always a rich, warm, and inviting feel to these spaces, some would even say comforting.

Symmetry and soft colour play a key role in this design style. Rich textiles and dark woods get infused and injected ever so elegantly. Everything is all in the details. Commonly used accessories are:

  • Candle holders
  • Vases
  • Chandeliers
  • Ornate china
  • Silver
  • Gold
  • Crown moulding
  • Wood paneling
  • Columns
  • Fire places
  • Paintings
  • Window treatments
  • Floral designs
  • Damask
  • Plaid
  • Silks
  • Velvets
  • Rich dark woods

Each room is always centred around a focal point.

Traditional design is one you can never go wrong with. Transitional design was later created by combining traditional and contemporary design which can also create a timeless look. You can have the best of both worlds; it’s a happy design medium.
